Ensembles
Children’s Ensembles – We offer age and skill based string group classes in order to train young students to play with others. We offer enrollment into ensemble programs on a semester basis. Students are required to complete the appropriate music theory course prior to the first ensemble class. Children will learn to apply the skills and knowledge of music theory in practice, rehearsal, and performance. This will allow children to have fun learning together, to learn vicariously through each other, and experience teamwork by developing awareness of their interactions with other students as they weave the sound of their individual instruments together into a collective unity of sound.
In the fall semester, larger groups will form, such as a large string ensemble, or choir, while in the spring semester, students will form into smaller groups, such as duos or trios. This will give the students opportunities to experience the different roles when playing in a unified section, vs playing their own part in polyphony with others.
Music Theory Classes – We offer music theory for all levels of students and believe that good musicians need to train their ear, read music proficiently, read rhythms accurately, keep a steady pulse, and learn how intervals, harmony, and musical form create the end result which they are realizing in performance. This directly ties to skills needed to be a proficient ensemble player, which is why we require the month-long course before ensemble classes begin each semester.
Adult Ensembles – For adult students of all skill levels, ages, and interests. We form groups on a semester basis, with a performance at the end of each semester.
Children’s Choir – The Children’s Choir was formed to provide opportunities for the children of Sandwich and surrounding communities to participate in a quality choral music education program outside of the classroom. We create a positive environment for learning and your children will work with an experienced Children’s Choral Director and Accompanist. Your child’s relationship with us will be not only positive, but life changing. This program is designed for the child’s beginning and advancing musical experience.
